What about an NZ style 8x4? Would they be too heavy for b double operations? It should solve the weight on the steer problem but may still be too long

NZ are totally different to oz, they have really weird combos over there. It makes the combination too long for b double work and you loose too much space for fuel. Why run an extra axel and more tyres when you can just get the right truck for the job. they do run 8x4 and 8x6 combos out west but 99% of the time they are single steer and always road trains which can only run on certain roads. We do run 8x4 rigids with quad axel trailers but they fall under the 19m rule and different laws.

Also on moving the fifth wheel. Yeah they could be done but you then have to change the trailer combo to fit then the truck and trailer can only be used together and not with anything else.

Why try to reinvent the wheel when what we have works. big companies have exploited every inch of the law and tried every combo they can, but some work and others just don't justify the cost or the headache.

They are quite common in heavy operations, too bad they are just crap. Fits well with the rest of the Kenworth quality.

what kind of transmission it have for that? allison?

or it is dry clutch but that high weight allowed just because of not frequent start and stoping/maneuvering and easier terrain
