Don't understand that this day in age, our trucks all have cab heaters as standard anf can be fitted with cab coolers that work when the engine is switched off, they are relatively cheap and are available over there too so no need to run engines or buy expensive auxiliary power units

    Ya, you nailed it.

Have you ever seen anything about an American truck that made sense at all? Anything other then big sleeper, that is.

I think the difference is they wouldn't get away with it here, try that and you'll have no customers, people here don't have that kinda patience or brand loyalty , the manufacturer messes up, u dont go back for seconds you to to a different manufacturer!

All ways thought you worked to make money, not wasting it. Why not make it easier and more comfy at the same time. To have some styling I understand, everyone got a hobby :)
But if I find a good solution in ; us, China, Bangladesh, north pole, .... doesn't matter I adopt it + internet has made research a hole lot easier.

About the picture, it has to be a reason for that loooooooooong truck and I would like to know :)

Virtually no competition and a krooked way to do business. You guys over there in Euro enjoy the fierce competition between all the truck manufacturers that are trying for a bigger piece of the market share. That's the main factor that drives for product of a better quality and innovation.
Here, because most truck components are nonproprietary and are shared between all truck builders (builders, not manufacturers cause they just slam together crap they collect from few suppliers and call it a truck) coupled with an unreasonable brand loyalty, you get great piles of manure called "big American trucks".

No, NO reason at all, just looks.
If he would've been pulling a flatbed trailer I would've understood.........reason in that case being the possibility to overhang long pieces to the front of the trailer and only 4' at the back end to avoid paying for over dimensional permits. But that,s all.

You'll also often see some guy driving in a Peterbilt 379 custom everything that has well over 300" of wheelbase equipped with flat roof "coffin" sleeper (30 something " only) and a mile of empty fraim rails all the way to a reefer trailer, just to "Look Kool".

That's the guy sitting with his ### on the floor and the shifter knob at the end of a 4'6" chromed stick.

Another thing you probably never seen over there is sliding trailer axles. That's because they don't know how to properly load a trailer to ensure proper weight distribution. After you load a truck you drive to a scale and weigh and adjust if needed by sliding the trailer tandem. It may be a good thing, but the slider always has play in it and besides that you can never have a good alignment and chew tires like no tomorrow the darn trailer is always dog tracking to one side. UGALY!

    Ya man!
