What factors do you drivers take into calculating your operating costs for each truck. Would be interested to know how everyone approaches it. What I've taken into account so far is

On the assumption you drive about 100k miles per year

    Insurance
    Lease (if you have one)
Trucking Maintenance Expenses (Tires, Axels, Engine Rebuild, Transmission rebuild, misc, etc.)
    Annual UCR fee
    Fuel
    Tag
    2290
    Driver
    Permits

I'm sure I'm missing a few things but would love to hear what everyone else thinks

Just type "Owner Operator Costs" in the search bar, there's hundreds of posts on the subject.

    $1.60 -1.70 a mile. That’s a real cost to run.

Would this be an estimate based on OTR, Intrastate, or regardless? Is there an equipment type that would be lower/higher? I would assume reefer would be more expensive than flat bed for example...

I’m a successful owner operator for years with 4 trucks now and it’s literally about $1 a mile. How dudes get $1.60 plus is insane. I also do flatbed. Now if you have your own authority there’s a bit more expense with factoring and such. Here’s my numbers.

    .45 fuel
    .07 insurance
    .07 trailer
    .02 tags and 2290
    .30 truck and maintenance
    = about .91

Now pay the driver a decent salary (or yourself) and benefits and the rest can be profit or put back into the business.

You are at $1 per mile. Add 60cpm for the driver salary and you are at that $1.60 insane number

How much do you pay your drivers who run for you? I'm wondering if the .91/mile you have when adding a decent salary all the way around ends up adding up to about 1.60-1.70/mile.

I think it was ooida that figured it was $1 per mile to be an independent owner operator with a dry van.
And $1.10 per mile to break even with a reefer.
    Or it was fleet owner?

.60/mile seems high, but obviously I'm new to this industry. Is that a number that is climbing due to driver shortage? What is a realistic low-average-high range for OTR drivers? Intrastate?
