A work in progress, just like the ELDs seem to be.
And EROAD sort of works. Sorta kinda.Oxbow and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
Well, to be fair, states and other regulatory agencies are NEVER going to get "procedurally ready" until they just jump in and start dealing with them, the same way the trucking industry was forced to jump in start dealing with them. It's like anything else, as long as it's "optional" it will never become something you can get into a IEEE "industry standard" or such as USB I, II, III, etc.
All they need to do is use the same specs and standards Qualcomm (Omnitracs) and/or Peoplenet has been using the last 10 years. No need for every idiot to try and recreate the wheel like they're doing now.ZVar Thanks this. -

If this mandate would have been delayed 10 years, in 10 years we would still have these issues.
We would have companies like the issues you stated above, with the drive line. It's likely an RM unit, as they have this exact problem right now.
We would have states not ready to write citations. We would have drivers not trained to use the tools. We would have ELD's that are crap. We would have megas asking for extensions, we would have.....
List goes on. Basically when something is mandated there is always an adjustment period when people go ####### trying to scramble to follow the mandate that was laid down two years ago. -
...and I know a company that has had that exact same issue with PeopleNet. Difference is that PeopleNet charges a hell of a lot more for their defective products.whoopNride, Oxbow and ZVar Thank this.

Never been around an ELD until EROAD, and they didn't sell an AOBRD. It follows what is mandated, and seems to have problems you can see.
Maybe the problem is with the mandate itself, and how information is obtained, stored, retrieved, and displayed.Oxbow and Pedigreed Bulldog Thank this. -
Except for one thing: hundreds, if not thousands of drivers are reporting glitches. Sorry Im going with the OP, not your gut feelOxbow Thanks this.

Problem is, hundred if not thousands of drivers are treating this eLog thing as if it's something that an "app" can fix. Too many are trying to use their personal phone or pad to run their "log app" and these are failing miserably. Also, too many are seeking out the cheapest option available trying to save a few dollars, and they're getting what they're paying for.
There have been hundreds of thousands of trucks running various types of eLog hardware the last 15 years so, with no issues outside of a rare device failure, so it's not like this is "new technology" in the broader view.BoostedTeg, ZVar and Broke Down 69 Thank this. -

And then along comes Big Gov to save the day LOL. Instant clusterflongbedGTs, DUNE-T, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
I suspect a big part of the current issues is the difference in the legislation between:
- AOBR (old): §395.15, and
- ELD (new): Part 395, Subpart B
Also, a lot of the late entries have not had fleets working out the bugs for years.Studebaker Hawk, Oxbow, 25(2)+2 and 1 other person Thank this.
