Why in the hell are these rates for dry freight in Los Angeles soooo cheap. I don't understand who is taking all these cheap rates. I have never seen it so dead.:biggrin_25510::biggrin_25510:

Rates are cheap because owners take them just to move their trucks. Shippers and brokers understand this so there is no need to offer decent rates. Things may change in January when CARB kicks in and many will no longer be able to run the left coast.

I just spent 3 days waiting to get out of SLCity UT. I couldnt find any thing over a dollar a mile to southern calif. Many were less than that. I ended up deadheading home because just as a matter of principle I wont haul it for fuel. I run a dry van and I think if I had a flat bed it would have been different. I would rather lose the fuel money and write it off my taxes than contribute to the industry the way it is, by wearing out my equipment for stupid rates. It seems to be the only weapon I have to combat this, so it is simply the lesser of 2 evils to me.

Rates are not always that great for flats, either. There are some areas that I have seen posted for less than $1/mile. I agree that it is better to deadhead than run for rates where you only pay for your fuel. At least when you deadhead you are not allowing others to make money while you work for free.

Good luck with that, it's not any better with a flat than a van. Maybe from the outside looking in it is, but once you figure load securement and tarping, it's the same joke.

i live in SLC. i'll take it over denver and vegas and boise and reno.

the entire west cost for that matter. :biggrin_255:

next time, look for utah onion. they are 30 miles to the north in clearfield. a lot of onion loads stop in there to be transfered to other trucks to delivery somewhere in the country. i've hauled in 3 loads from verious northwest. and took out 1 load to jacksonville fl.
