A move like Ontario and Quebec and requiring speed governors set at 58 mph.

EPIC! I instantly thought of the same thing! :biggrin_2559:

As far as what Polarbear was referencing. It is ILLEGAL to send in a clean truck with your trailer and then bringing it back out of the port and just switching tractors. At least...that's what I was told about three days ago.

Who would know? What if said new truck broke down and the '03 you had in the yard was the only spare? I think the whole deal is stupid. I have a 2005 reefer with 12000 hours on the engine that works great that I am ACTUALLY contemplating selling so I can run produce out of that state this summer. Seems to me that the hazardous waste and fumes created in building all these new reefer units far outweigh the little bit of extra pollution my reefer puts out but I guess I'm just using common sense.

I know exactly why they did this and it's not fair. Some time back the port was expanding and were having some high dollar cranes built overseas. They had to buy more land to open up more area for the cranes and the shipping. They had to apply for permits and CARB stepped in and said they are in an area that does not meet the Clean Air Act. So for them to get approval they had to take steps and take them fast or they would be stuck with two large cranes costing millions.

The fastest and biggest step they could do was go after the trucking in the port. If you've been around for awhile there you would have seen older OTR trucks hauling containers. It was like their last leg before they died so you saw a lot of junk needing repairs hauling containers out of the port all day long. So the Port went after the trucks to get the highest return for the fastest program. Those old trucks can not haul containers anymore and I'm sure there has been a lot of guys out of business because of the Port. The Port wants news trucks and no pollution so the last thing they would ever do is ALLOW PARKING OF TRUCKS there.

You'd have to to afford living out there... I think my cohorts in trucking who live out there are nuts. You could sell your house and retire around where I live for what your house costs out there.
