You have some learning to do, and you will learn a lot once you get out here. From only what you can read here, and maybe some observations you may have come across now, driving your car, you have seen only a very small portion of what we have seen at the 5, 10, 25, 40 years of driving have afforded us to see.

Sadly there are just too many instances where ignorance can be deadly. To me, to fail to call in a possible reckless driver, is paramount to minding one's business and not caring if one lives or dies or takes others as well.

We all look bad in the public eye now as it is, and if we do not take steeps to squash some of the bad stuff, we have absolutely NO ONE else to blame when the feds do it for us.

It is not a matter to get someone in trouble, if that happens however, so be it, but if a driver is doped up or boozed out of his mind, then well, job well done dropping a dime, as we need NOT have those idiots on the roads.

I am NOT cutting you down for what you have said, I am only enlightening you about the importance of policing ourselves. I wish you well in your soon to be new career.

    Well said.

We also have to think about the safety of others on the road, and if a call-in removes a problem driver before a potentially serious accident happens, then so much the better.

I have only called in one time.... East bound I24 in Tennessee coming to the merge with I65 and the scrap hauler was literally 20 feet off the rear bumper of a school bus. That is not enough room at any time but at rush hour and behind a bus full of kids I was not going to let that go.

Another time I just talked to the driver of the stagecoach I was on. We were in a construction zone and the car in front of us was tailgating a semi in front of them and our driver was 20 feet behind that car. I said something about being too close and the driver responded that we were fine. Then I asked, "So you can stop a 40k pound vehicle in 20 feet?" The driver backed off after that..

I have forgotten how easily things can be mis-read on forums. I'm going to restate myself:

The purpose of snitching is to get someone in trouble (tattling). The purpose of calling someone in ought to be about responsible concern--about keeping someone out of BIG trouble--maiming or killing someone else or themselves or causing serious damage to property. I am taking my CDL permit test tomorrow. I sincerely hope you guys never have to call me in. But I sure hope you do if I'm looking for BIG trouble!

I personally did not take your first statement in a wrong way. Tattle tailing is much different then the true meaning of snitch which is to "inform". But yes too, another definition of snitching is indeed tattle tailing.

If we look at it this way, someone "tattle tailing" on a co-worker for smoking in the rest rooms, is a moot point, regardless that the co-worker is violating building codes or anti-smoking laws. Who cares in all reality. MYOB is what I say, if he wishes to smoke on company property so be it. Or at the very least, just say to the company manager, "I think someone was smoking in the restroom", that way, no names are used, and thusly, not in reality tattle tailing on a particular person. And management can remind everyone that smoking is not allowed on the premises.

But to "inform" (the true meaning of the word snitch), a company that they have a driver causing problems is a major concern for all.

You did fine your first time explaining yourself.

There used to be this crazy guy that would go around and film bad drivers. He's in prison now for shooting at someone..something like that.

He would film bad drivers, send the tape into their companies' safety department and demand money or he would post the video online.

    That is freaking awesome.

In a "holy crap, how much of a douche bag can one man be" sort of way.

Yes, the trucker he shot at testified against him. I think the bullet went into the cab or sleeper. the trucker tried pushing him into a wall, I think. If I also remember correctly, the video man got little time?

I am trying to find the story and when I do, I will link it for you.

This was as I also recall, published in the OOIDA magazine, as the trucker is a member, but as of right now, until I can find the story, I cannot say for sure.

hang tight, this is gonna take a while.
