Cause it's more fun to fish than to go shopping? Dang, I don't know.
Actually, if someone is willing, we can all get the answers at the same time and not have to argue about it or pester anyone excessively, and the info will be here for future reference. -
Seems you have had an interesting couple of days on here.
I know a driver that downgraded the GVWR of the truck and received one large ticket for it. They only look at it and some confirm with the internet on the car's computer.
As far as a motel receipt. It comes under a vague rule that states all receipts are subject to a review when requested. Say you cross a toll booth and get a receipt, they can request it.
Should get interesting if you get a response and divert them here for consultation.SMBdriver Thanks this. -
Don't know about diverting them here, but the new thread is up and should be easy to find. If we get a nibble I'll post a link to it if I can.

Here's the link for that thread -
FYI
Dieselbear is on and answering hot shot questions at the above link. He just answered the motel issue. -
So how do you downgrade the GVWR? Remove the VIN plate or physically alter the GVWR that was placed on the vehicle by the manufacturer?SMBdriver and Scalemaster Thank this.
-
I saw posts by an auto hauler with a 3 car wedge that claimed he had the trailer manufacturer give him a new VIN plate rating the trailer at 10,000lbs. GVWR . He had the trailer for sale briefly at Uship before they pulled it for violating rules regarding selling items .
This individual claimed the new plate would allow the trailer to be pulled with a 1 ton truck without requiring a CDL -A -
Let me answer you a little at a time.
Dieselbear already answered the one about receipts. They are required upon request. We don't "target" hot shots around here. They get the same attention as the big rigs.
If you come in here with a recent inspection in your hand, I will not likely inspect you again unless I see something falling off.
You can consider it whatever you want, but if it is registered for enough weight, it is supposed to come in the scale, loaded or empty.
If you are pulling any kind of a trailer, then that GVW plus your truck @ 10,000 puts you over 10,000 and makes you a CMV.
More later.SMBdriver, Roadmedic and Motownfire Thank this. -
No you don't remove the vin plate, you do a altered chassis certification
and label it as altered certification.
