You may well be right, but they do ask. Since I have my receipts it's not a problem for me, but I do see your point... that some of the officers asking might be overstepping...
-
No, RickG does not really know for sure.
They have stated that the driver has to prove where they stay.
I have seen drivers put out of service for not providing receipts and taking the stand it is none of their business.SMBdriver Thanks this. -
Thanks for that info.
I know a (probably by now former) driver who got put OOS a lot for just that very thing, sleeping in his truck.
And he was way too big to fit on the back seat, so I assume he meant he was snoozing right there in the driver's seat.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but it seems to me that it would be hard to sell the idea that you spent your 10 getting decent off-time or much sleep cramped up in a pickup truck...either in the front or back seats.
Either way I just pony up the motel receipts when they ask for them. I used to wear a badge and fully understand how futile it can be at times arguing with someone else wearing one...
That's not a hill I personally want to die on if you know what I mean.

That is very aptly put and correct. I have never had a DOT inspector ask me for a motel receipt.
-
I don't care what they state . Off duty time is exempt from regulations and you aren't accountable for the time .
-
I agree.
But MN puts them out of service unless you give them a motel receipt. -
As do Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi apparently.
-
All it takes is one driver to challenge it in court . An RV transport company should get a letter from their attorney for their drivers to carry . I'd like to know what regulation the drivers were cited for violating .
-

But I don't understand having to show receipts, whos to say you cant carry a pup tent and pitch in someones backyard? what if they didn't sleep, just sat in a truck stop doing paper work?
Have you guys ever seen these tickets? or are we just talking about people who actually got caught well sleeping in their truck?
