Depends on the truck I guess. Most have the same idle shutdown just like everybody. I lucked out and got a truck with no idle shutdown.
Cell phone policy is the same for everyone. Hands free only while driving.

I don't recall training you...LOL. That sounds like me. Cigarettes are food. I almost never have a sit down meal. I'm doing it more now because my wife got on me about that. Really I just don't like spending that kind of money, especially since the food is usually crap.
I'll stock up on food to share if we get stuck having to park outside a shipper or something like that. -
So is there a certain amount of backing they have to show? Having them log it all the time isn't going to work out too well.
-
Unless they changed it you have to show 10hrs of backing. My students would have, say 15 minutes, of docking backing (which was logged on the DT) and then we would practice during the day. I almost always logged 30 minutes worth each day, sometimes more because we would practice while off-duty (saves their hours).
-
I don't recall them mentioning that. The instructor just advised to let them do all of the backing if possible and if you have the time, make them practice at the truck stop or a terminal. It could be in the book I guess, but I don't remember talking about it and I'm too lazy to look right now...

The requirements used to be 150hrs driving forward and 10hrs backing........MY TC said we could use some of the forward hours for backing, but at 15 minutes a day (or every other day) it really just made it hard to remember to go on the drive line after being on-duty when you check in, note that this driving time is backing practice, and then going back in at night to see how many 15 minute backs were done..................it was really just easier to practice for awhile and then mark down 30 minutes or more for that day.

great topic Vince, can't wait to get started next week. Are you ready to train yet?
-
Not yet but I'm in Atlanta. They gave me a short run that keeps me in Georgia tomorrow. Hopefully they'll keep me around here until I can get to a class.

I have my CDL and Hazmat just waiting on the hard copy in the mail. I should be in Tunnel Hill 27th or the 2nd.
