We had a driver a few years ago that had a similar situation on a straight section of road... 4 lanes he was in lane 2 passing a truck in lane 1, 3rd truck gaining fast from behind in lane 3. Lane 1 was ending, lane 1 truck began encroaching into lane 2. Our driver started to merge to lane 3 but aborted and applied brakes when noticed fast gainer. Fast gainer side swipes our truck in lane 2, this pushes our truck into side swiping lane 1 truck.

Final out come... Our trucks fault. The reasoning used was that because the camera showed the slight movement toward lane 3 that he sideswiped lane 3 truck and rebounded from impact into lane 1 truck... That slight movement toward the left lane may very well bite @LoneRanger in the butt.

I can see both sides, but I think ultimately the cam truck had ample opportunity to make an evassive move to the right to avoid the impact. If I was in the safety department of the cam truck and this came across my desk id tell the driver... "Hey, #### happens. Learn from it and move on." And that would be the end of it... Unless it was a driver with a history of crunches.

Ever been up the corkscrew from the Major Deegan to the cross Bronx GW bridge? Worse than I55 ramp. Stopped many times to let aggressive drivers come over in front of me.

I sat there for a solid twenty minutes once. Thought about calling the highway patrol.

    Can't see, don't move.

Again, I hate it for him, and I wish him the best.
But, when you f up, take your lumps and roll on.

As an aside, whatever was going on was clearly off the road and didn't pose any real hazard. Law sez, "move over or SLOW DOWN. "
    He was moving plenty slow.

White Volvo would have taken my left front off about 4 hours ago if hadn't braked hard after he passed me.

I never saw a major city pick up or delivery during the day when we ran paper.

Always went in between 2300 and 0400.

Oxbow, D.Tibbitt and 4mer trucker Thank this.
