They already have backup cameras. They're called MIRRORS.

Yes, we have cameras but I never use mine....much prefer to use my mirrors.............I use the camera screen as a holder for my 3x5 cards with my route solution written on it.

Newbies don't use their mirrors often enough now, could you imagine if back up cameras were popular? They'd be hitting people and property left and right saying, "but it looked good on my screen!" Trucks have mirrors for a reason.......those that don't use them, won't be driving professionally for very long.

Not to turn this into a rant, but I guess I'm going to anyway. When you see someone trying to back (blindside or not) why don't you get out and spot for him? We used to help each other out with the little things like this. He can get in the spot quicker and safer with a spotter. Doesn't matter if he's a newbie or an old timer, its helpful, its curteous and its down right professional. Besides you might even make a new friend! I can't believe how many times people walk right past someone backing up on their way in to the truckstop, or back out to their truck. You are standing right there anyway! Why not pause a moment and spot for him? OK, I'm done now.

Go to Costco and buy a set of 4 cameras, 7" monitor in 12 Volt for under $275. We use them on rear view mirrors for wide loads and one on the back of the trailer and the other behind the cab to oversee the trailer and load.

Monitor can be dash mounted or as a flip mount on the sun visor or dash.

In the future, I think we might see something like this for "BIG" trucks, remote control for backing. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx9S2QKFbh0[/ame]

You just had to post that video. Now there's something else I need to buy. I can't tell you how much time I've wasted with a RC excavator.

The only thing I want mounted on the back and the sides of my trailer are big flashing signs that activate when backing that say, "Do not walk behind trailer while backing." And of course it's always truck drivers that do it in a dark lot.
