That's no joke. Scares the hell outta me when I'm trying to back into a dark spot, tired as hell, when suddenly you catch sight of some idiot back there looking like he's trying out for Soul Train (there used to be a common set of hand signals, apparently they don't teach 'em anymore)......

I totally agree with that statement - however...

...I can see the benefit of having a backup camera as another tool to use. NOT a crutch, but a tool. You can include it in your 'scan' as you look from mirror to mirror, or out the driver's side window.

When it doubt, get out...but things can happen even when you've already done that, and it could help save your (or someone else's) bacon one day.

i had one for a few weeks it was nice, the last truck i drove had the camera system mounted in the truck only one of the trailers i pulled had the camera on it however. but when i had that trailer hooked to my truck it was a handy tool, not something to be relied on but anything that helps remove a blind spot is a good thing.

I don't need one for backing up, but am going to mount a cam aimed at the reefer LCD display so I can check the full readout just by one touch of a button on my dash. I use a Jensen 9414 head unit so I can switch over to the cam and see it on the 7" screen, and then alternate between that, or the navigation, or movies (not while driving), or whatever. But yeah, will be kinda fun to see the full LCD display of the reefer while I drive- especially under ice-cream loads and such.

I'm planning to purchase a 4 camera system with DVR on continuous record. It will prove valuable when someone tries to claim that I'm at fault for damaging their truck / fence / retaining wall, etc. And I can sell the spectacular police chase crash videos that I'll probably end up seeing at some point :)
