Vibration is a real killer, and trucks have a lot of it.
The way you mount it can have a lot to do with service life.

I ran into this problem when I get an XM radio.
The first went south after about 4 months because the connections were turned to dust from all the shaking.
So when I replaced it I added some velcro straps in certain areas to help keep things moving together, instead of against each other.
So far so good with my second unit, after about a year.

We have the DriveCam system in our trucks at BP. At first, I was a little apprehensive, but, it's really turned out to be no big deal. All they want (the company) is for us to stay off our cell phones, wear a seat belt and not engage in tailgating or things of that nature. Other than that, they don't care. And, it has actually saved quite a few jobs in the process and helped stave off several phony lawsuits. Now, I go to work and hardly even notice it's there. It can't be "remotely" activated and it only records if there is a recordable event.

Friend of mine drives for Mid-South out of Memphis. They started put cameras in the trucks. One is a dsah cam. The other one watchs the driver. He covered the driver watcher up and has not heard anything about it yet.

Same system in our company trucks . no issues with it . I like the fact that the driver can manually activate the camera if need be. ie a customer`s locked gate !

[h=1]Truck Drivers Use Dash Camera Footage To Avoid Citations[/h] February 22, 2013

It seems that cameras are everywhere nowadays: cell phone cameras, security cameras and now dash cameras. In this age of the truck driver is always guilty mentality, many truck drivers are now turning to dash cameras.
Even if you’re not involved in an accident, dash camera footage could help you avoid trouble in other ways, as well. For example, how many times have you gotten flipped off by a driver, angered a driver or received a complaint by a frustrated driver over something you had no control over?
We recently heard from a driver who said a motorist called his company and complained about his driving. She said the driver refused to get over when she was trying to merge into traffic. The driver said he couldn’t get over for the driver, because traffic was too thick. The driver said he is now investing in a dash camera that also uses his mirrors.
In August, truck driver Debra Miller’s dash cam footage helped her get out of two traffic citations.
The video below shows Miller attempting to make a left turn, when a car suddenly comes around her and hits the side of Miller’s truck.
Miller says if it had not been for her dash cam footage, she doubts troopers would have believed that the accident was not her fault.
The second citation, Miller feels her dash cam footage helped her avoid, involved a school bus. Miller was accused of passing a school bus with its flashing lights on, but when Miller replayed the footage, it proved that the bus’s lights were not on and Miller had not done anything wrong.

I'm not sure if anyone would want to look at someone as ugly as me through a camera.

I worked for covenant for about a year, and they have a camera on the qualcomm (u can see it top left, I believe) I know for fact its a camera and it works!! This Is how I know, one day my partner and I picked up a security load, which neither of us were real happy about becasuse we seem to be getting a security load on our backhaul everytime now. To make a long story short, my partner flipped off the camera quite a few times and said " &/$#! #$/@".....well, u get my point.lol. he really, like me, didn't think anything about it as we questioned whether it was a camera in the first place. A couple weeks went by and our dispatcher brought us back to the terminal because we needed to get some things straighten out with pay, our route that we were runnin, just to basicly make sure everyone was on the same page. My partner got called away from me to talk (cant remember if it was our dispatcher or his boss, etc). Later I caught back up with him and he told me that the customer of the product we were hauling caught him flipping them off (apparently customer has access to view us wgen they want ....maybe just security loads idk?) And called covenant on us. Covenant told us that the only time they use it is in "special situations"lol. My partner got the chance to see the camera in action from the boss's computer screen and said you could see the whole cab clear as day! I was particularly upset with this bexause im a very private person and I really felt violated ...needless to say I dont work there anymore

My current company has them. After awhile you forget its there. It can be a very good thing. A fellow driver rolled a truck in an accident after being t-boned and the passenger died. Saved the company a lot of money because there was proof that the 4-wheeler was at fault by running the stop sign.
