Can a UPS store box address be used to get a Tx drivers license?

The reason it works for the Escapees RV group is because they use a physical address. Their address. Not a PO Box.

They do this for TX/FL and SD as @Chinatown said. Texas is their HQ location if I recall properly.

It works for a regular license for Texas, one would assume it would be the same for a CDL. Escapees will forward the mail on to you at whatever address. They do this for thousands of their members. An have for years now. They've been around awhile.

I know several folks who've done it because they decided to go full time in a rv. I know I've mentioned it before on here, long ago. Chinatown continues to mention it, and I just post about tacos now.

USPS has had that capability since the mid 90's. I had to connect a University payroll system to the PostalSoft software once back in the day. Also, right at the beginning of the e-commerce boom private software companies had to develop very similar address discrimination software in order to calculate sales taxes. Tax rates can change just by crossing a street.

 

Some states recognize that address and prohibit using it as a DL address. I don't know about Texas. Your friend can try renting a "mailbox" at a hotel/motel. My state wants a utility bill, (not a cellphone bill) in your name at the address you will use for DL. For CDL you can have a physical address and a mailing address, but to change either you must visit in person a DMV facility. 4-wheeler DLs can change their address online, not CDL in TN.

 

I checked with the Feds. As of now every state is compliant with Real ID. TN changed the proof they need when they became REAL ID complaint a few years ago. All states had to be compliant by early 2023, IIRC, but the last non-compliant state has already made the switch.

 

it worked for me. ups store address. in nj i think some self storage places have address you can yse also if you can get mail there. some have some do not.

 

real id has nothing to do with state normal CDL. at least not here in PA. real id not required

 

I have a ups store mailbox and tx had put that address on my license so I don’t see it being an issue..it basically has physical address and such.

 

A better method would be to talk to a local motel. Ask them to use their address and a room number. Get a P.O box for the mailing address and just promise to use the motel when he is

Keep in mind the friend/family member has to go with the driver and bring their own 2 proofs of residence. After that they can certify the driver lives there. My wife has to go with me as I am on our lease, but gas water and electric are in her name so she has to certify we live together here in TX.
