Can anyone explain how to operate at 1.75 a mile and stay in business!?

I think all has been covered pretty well here.

 

the first year is the roughest, if i still had half the hair that fell out my first year id still have half a head of hair. it gets easier the longer you do it. do everything you possibly can yourself. watch your overhead lifestyle ect.

This industry CAN be rewarding,it is for me

I Structure my business now to enjoy the best of both worlds- I Work a 4 day week-Every Week (Sunday thru Wed or Mon-thru thur) the 3 solid days off in a row is better than I could have guessed-Should have done it years ago.

Plenty of Time Now to Keep the Home in top shape-Visit Family and Friends Often.

I did the 5-1/2 -6 day week (70) hour and it wasn't worth the effort for a few extra bucks.

 

You should be proud man. I think that's most everyone's definition of success. I'm sure your family thanks you for it.

 

That's bad advice. I'm sitting at 1060 miles for the week so far. 2 loads with a gross of $3416.18. I still have three days left of my work week. And this is with a van trailer. There's no freaking reason to bang out those kinda miles to survive, especially in this market.

Yes, but even if I had an eld it wouldn't have changed a thing.

 

I only read the first post but can I explain how to survive on $1.75/mile? No, but I can tell you it starts by not tearing your equipment up. BTW, liability and all perils on my 32 year old Pete is ~$2000/yr. At 75 mph I could live of the fuel savings alone by driving 60. Pretty sure I wouldn't be in a hurry to deliver a $1.75 load.

 

They do, Kids are grown now- But I Sweat Blood the first 20 years I tell ya- Many 4am starts to 8 at night-
Im closing in on 50 years old, While I Still have my Health and Family- I'm Slowing it down to 4 days- 6 weeks vacation per year also.

 

What a sacrifice this business is. Out of all the things or negatives we could come up with. It's sacrifice that tops the list.

My wife and I have a just turned 1 year old son. I don't necessarily regret it, but we delayed having children for atleast 6+ years in order to get our business up and going. Was it worth it? Was it a mistake? Only time will tell. I sure love that little guy to pieces though.
