Also hog, no one held a gun to their head and made them go to work for these companies or do a lease. It is like We would say in the Army when people would complain Nobody made you sign up so shut up ! They are grown men and women they make their choices.
Ok people want to say how working 70 hours in a week for 3 month for only $600 is bad starting out with Prime. And some are comparing working for minimum wage is better. Let's use minimum wage and only minimum wage (not overtime cause we all know that won't happen on minimum wage) So 70 hours a week times $7.25 equals 507.50. Now do that for a month and you get $2030 a month. Take about $300 for taxes that leaves you $1730 a month. Now Prime at $600 a week for a month is $2400. (just act like you didn't take the $200 advance the first part of training ok). Take the same amount for taxes $300 still leaves you $2100 a month. No I did not take out medical for any of the numbers. Now with Min wage you get to see your family every day so that is a plus. But here is the kicker. You will be min wage for let's say a year. But with Prime you will only get that $600 a week for what max 3 months. Then you get your own truck and oh wait you get .41 a mile. Say you do 2500 miles a week that is $1025 before taxes a week. So yea you only see your family maybe once a month but you can provide better for them trucking. Cause in two weeks you will make more than you did in one month working min wage. Now the sad part that person working min wage actually makes more money and get's to see his/her family every day then the person that is serving his/her country. Let's take the same person working min wage. They make let's say $1730 a month get to see family every day. Now that individual serving his/her country works 24hrs a day (yes they are on call 24hrs a day 365 days a year) starting pay is $1491 a month before taxes. So they actually only get paid $2 an hour. Yes food is taken care of. Yes housing is taken care of. Yes medical is taken care of. If they have a family they actually have to pay for the family to have dental about $30 a month. So take the typical soldier they go overseas for 8 month (8 month without family) yea tax free and a little extra money a month. Still min wage makes more money. There is no point in what i have written other than you all get to see your family at least once a month. When the individual that signed up with Uncle Sam probly wont' get to see there family for 8 months or more.
Actually I drove for American Redball hauling household goods, When showers where 2.00 a pop and you mickey moused your log books. Im pretty sure I have more expereince in OTR than 99.9% of your PRIME drivers. But You're right everyone does have to start some where. and all i do is share my opinion/experiences. If you disagree or no something that i don't then please share, but lets not run around calling each other names and making assumtions. Im currently working for anheuser busch making more running local home every night, and every weekends. Why do you guys get so made when someone points of any thing negative.
That works out to only 5 drivers that have more experience than you. Guess that would be the 5 that have a 3 million mile safe driving award at Prime. There are about 100 with 2 million and several hundred with 1 million. You must have alot of miles under your belt huh?
So lessee here... We've gone from PSD student to someone with 20 years experience... Don't have the maturity to handle a difficult situation on the pad as an adult would... Haven't worked for a lick in trucking any time recently, but has the knowledge of "how" things work in 3 or 4 other training companies... I don't know about you olphart, but my BS detector is really pegging out here.
You made your point several times over to the point you are trolling. Now move on and stop inciting arguments. Everyone has to start somewhere.
Wow I hadn't been on here in over a month, quite a discussion this turned out to be, thanks for all the helpful info everybody. I took time to check into other occupations & toured some college campuses, etc... Some of the jobs you need a 2 year degree for are a freaking joke, some of them average less than 30K a year. I make more that that now without a student loan! Anyhow I'm pretty darn sure at this point that I will pursue truck driving in the spring, I figure that if I do some pizza delivery in the evenings & work some overtime where I'm at now combined with my GF's tax return in the spring I can make it through 3 weeks or so training. Our ultimate goal is to move out of St Louis in the next few years to Oregon, it seems that truck driving is the best way to make my goal, short of winning the lottery lol.
