Might be to late, but just don’t idle idle, Kick up the idle always when idling, 900 rpm’s at least.

I guess by now we all know you survived.
This job is all about planing and which priorities you must have on the top of your list. Fuel comes in at number two right after food.

It is very hard on a diesel to idle at low rpm.

When I had my Cat, Cat recommended to idle with the oil pressure at 60psi. The newer emissions engine build up soot when idling.

Idling lower on the new engines will clog up the emissions crap sooner too.

Of course, if one likes snowballs, go for it! :)

Yes. Be careful idling on low fuel level if you are on very uneven ground. The engine & fuel pumps draw fuel from both fuel tanks. Once one of your fuel tanks starts sucking air your truck will stop pulling fuel from the other tank. I routinely used all but the last 20-35 gallons of fuel capacity. I think my record was using all but the last 7 gallons. Learn if your truck can show you the number of gallons you have used and how to reset that counter each time you fuel. That is the most accurate way to monitor fuel use. EVERY fuel gauge I've ever had was slightly inaccurate. The way to learn your fuel system is to make sure you fill your fuel tanks the same way every time. The fuel tanks have a data plate welded or engraved with the fuel capacity indicated. The tanks on either side of your truck may not have equal capacity. Find the numbers on your tanks. Once you learn how to reset your fuel used counter then start comparing the number of gallons you buy with the number of gallons the truck says it has used. My last 2 Freighliner fuel gauge showed 1/4 remaining when I had used just slightly under 1/2 of my fuel. In my truck I could easily drive 100 miles once the fuel gauge showed 1/8 remaining. You have to learn your truck.

Each tank must have an area or a plate on it to indicate the capacity of that tank. The tank on the left and the right might not be the same size. Often that information is near the end of the tank or near the filler cap. The information is required to be on the tank.

It only takes 10-15 minutes to fuel, plus about a million dollars and 6 months to build a truck stop with fuel pumps and fuel. Maybe his/her company doesn't have a fuel stop nearby.
