Think they'd give you 2 weeks notice if they decided to let YOU go????

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have a clean driving record and criminal record. no drugs or parking tickets. When I call swift and say I want to join their truck driving academy, how long will it take for them to put me on that bus (rough estimate). I have money saved, just need to know how long.

Give notice, leave on as good of terms as possible. Hopefully you've been a good employee and have developed relationships with managers you can leverage for future recommendations. That's the way to do it right, irregardless of the workplace.

Don't burn any bridges. You may want to work there again if trucking doesn't work out.

Why not call Swift instead of asking what Swift will say if you call them?

Why Swift? What have you learned about them that makes you think they're the right place for you to get into trucking?

Why do you want to get into trucking?

Let me put forth a very likely scenario for you to consider. You dont give your two weeks notice and dive right into trucking. If you are like 90% of Americans who go this route you dont even last a year, for whatever reason. So now you have a bad reference at pizza hut (and most likely at your trucking company as well), hardly any time put in at your trucking job and there you are, back at square one. Only difference is now your work history is ruined and you have nobody to vouch for you as a valuable employee.

My friend, dont burn bridges. Give your two weeks notice. Thank them for having you and part ways.

People are looking for work. Give 2 weeks notice and tell them you can leave sooner if needed. More than likely they will ask you to finish the week out and go.

Give them a 2 week notice as a courtesy but explain to them that if you get accepted early you may cut that short.Gives them a little time to find a replacement but gives you the flexibility of leaving before then if needed.

Always remember unless you hate everyone you're working with just not showing up puts them in a bind and they have to pick up the slack.Show some respect to get some respect.

"At will employment" means you can leave any time, they can tell you to leave any time. Leave immediately, that's just wrong.

Two weeks notice is so '60's. If you just leave the people you're working with will wish they had the guts to leave with you.

You should do even the most menial job to the best of your ability and remain on good terms when you leave, if possible. If you learn anything on these forums it's that courtesy is a rare commodity these days. Be one of the good ones. Give them notice and offer to go sooner if they are OK with it.
