I was told once i got my cdl i could come work for mtv, I'm friends with one of the managers.I'm on the 3 week of training with swift, the instructors tell me that I'm a good driver and should pass my test. I test on friday, if i pass can i leave the company and work for mtv? Someone said that they will take away my cdl. Can they do that? I'm more than willing to make paymemts to swift for the training i just dont want to pass up a better opportunity.

They can't take away your CDL but they can withhold your graduation certificate until your loan is paid for.
Many companies require new drivers to have a school certificate so that can become a trap.

Make sure you're hired at the new company before you quit, just in case. Wouldn't want to go back after leaving right away. Goodluck

All of those new CDL hiring company's are the same IMO. You're just jumping out of one frying pan into another. The top paying company's like to see loyalty. They want to have a good idea they're not going to spend big money hiring you then you'll walk away. I'd stay with Swift at least until your agreement is up if it were me

Swift doesn't have an employment contract. They only have the school loan contract. So yes, you can leave. Just make sure you pay back your loan either through your own money or see if the company you're going to has a tuition reimbursement program and if swift school qualifies.

Source - that's what I did. There is no question of "loyalty". First off that's ridiculous, but since you also didn't sign any employment contract... Now, it's true that you'll have issues with someone hiring you if you are switching companies every few months, but since you don't work for swift and your first company is going to be wherever you went after school, that doesn't apply.

All that said, make sure you're hired before you blow off swift orientation. You can postphone that orientation for a rather long time by the way.

If that's where you really want to work, then just do it! What type trucking company is it; reefers, dry van, household goods, etc?
