I didn't apply to a job yet, I am just trying to pass this stupid physical so I can at least START taking lessons on my local driving school. I can't even do that, get the permit, without a physical l. I didn't talk much at the doctors office. He said he couldn't do the test 20 seconds into the appointment because of the anxiety box checked. I actually have a college degree in psychology and a minor in neuroscience, and took a few neuropharamcology courses, so it's only fair I can share my insight on these drugs. Lexapro is harmless in terms of driving, but that's irrelevant anyway as I wasn't taking it at that point. Anxiety alone prevented him from doing the rest of the test according to him.

Did you read your other thread where a driver posted he passed the DOT physical and listed the medication on the form.
You were sent to a doctor that interprets the rules differently. This is common and why drivers in-the-know avoid Concentra and other DOT physical facilities. Concentra changes the rules every few minutes it seems.

Yeah I saw that, but medication didn't come up at all, I wasn't on it at the time. It was the anxiety history itself that he claimed was the issue. The doctor I went to, it was also an immigration office. I wouldn't be surprised if he just had bias against me from the start because I was a white guy, and wants to save the trucking jobs for other foreigners or something. He just had an attitude before I even said anything. I reported him to the driving school so maybe they won't recommend him from now on.

You're not a foreigner once you have a Green Card or become a US Citizen. But, yeah, I understand what your statement means.

I know that. I'm a Democrat and have nothing against immigrants, but it did seem like he had an attitude from the start and was just finding an excuse to not certify me. If he got his medical education somewhere else I doubt he has accurate updated info on how anxiety disorders/SSRIs work.

It just seems weird that driving a truck instead of a car suddenly requires perfect health. The same sleep disorders/reaction time issues are just as deadly in a car. It's not like it's physically harder to hit the pedals in a truck, it's just much more knowledge is required. I mean also (again no offense to anyone) but having seen some of the people who are behind the wheel of trucks, there's no way my health is worse lol

I think the point is not so much the health required to push the pedals on the truck so much, but more so that a 75,000 lb piece of steel at 65mph can do a lot more damage in an incident then a 4000 lb piece of steel.

Yeah, and the braking/accelerating systems are designed for that. I don't see how health affects that danger.

So go work changing the minds of doctors for a living. If you tell the doctor doing the DOT Physical that you have one of the red flags on the DOT physical exam, you aren't starting a discussion. You aren't updating your partner in your medical health about recent research. You are asking to be denied a DOT physical. Will telling me you disagree on whether this is fair change the DOT medical exam procedure? Will disagreeing with the procedure, change the procedure. Being in college recently sometimes leads college attendees to think that the world is one long logical debate. Life has little to no resemblance to ANY university campus.

Make decisions like the consequences are important. They usually are important.

You will literally starve to death before you can argue the doctor/nurse into your understanding about your anxiety medication or history. Life is not a debate tournament. College attendance often ruins people's life with their outlandish atmosphere and unrealistic ideas that change almost as often as female fall fashions change from year to year.
