A lot of people do not understand urine tests. When you are tested the lab does NOT use a mass spectrometer on the sample. The lab uses test strips or a special cup that exposes the urine to test strips. These test strips look for what I believe is five chemicals in your urine. If their not present your a negative for those substances end of test no matter what else you may have in your system. There are a lot of other substances that can give a false positive. This is why the MRO needs to be able to contact you to explain what you are taking. Although TCAs are not on the FMCSA list of prohibited substances some Inpatient drug treatment hospitals test for them. If you take Benadryl you will test positive for TCA. As to telling a lie. I know right now of three OTR interstate drivers that take insulin shots to control diabetes. Yes they told lies and they made sure their blood sugar level was low before the physical. In the past most of the physical was on the honor system. With todays technology step by step this is coming to a close. One day soon a lot of drivers with out of control diabetes will not get physicals because of having their A1C checked. All these guys had to do was fast the night and morning before and their blood sugar would be low enough to pass the sugar spilling into the urine test. Not with A1C can't do it.

Any medical examiner can certify you fit to drive. Its my understanding that a type 2 diabetic on the pills is qualified if diabetes is controlled by said pill. However I understand that some carriers will not employ you with this even though you have that medical card.

I Don't believe sleep apnea is part of a DOT medical but I know plenty of companies that will not hire you because of it.

If you hire a guy with sleep apnea and he falls asleep, even if he had clearance to drive with a cpap, you can get sued because you knew he was at increased risk of driver fatigue. But the law also says you can't discriminate.
So then carriers hire the guy, but make him buy a more expensive machine so they can monitor his sleep... But they get sued for making the guy buy something they should have provided as "reasonable accommodation". You just can't win... -
yes, YOU CAN lie on your DOT physical.
but, if after the pee test, they find you are pregnant, but ,marked on the application that you are male, then....
