Yes. Grown man with 0 money. Now unhappy with the situation.
At least he's not sleeping in the truck, eating out of a 7-11.
Can I quit while on the road?

And there is close to 13000 that do and most of the larger OTR carriers pull DAC reports to stay in regulatory compliance with the FMCSA. Hireright provides this as a service. Even in the absence of a DAC report a company that employs a CDL holder is still required BY law to do that same investigation. There is nothing to fear however about DAC. If your a screwup most likely your DMV report is going to get you long before DAC does.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

I'm new to this site. Some people on here are shaking my thoughts on what it means to be a professional. Those of you who worked hard enough to get your CDL and make a career of it I understand. Those that get their CDL and abandon their truck for whatever reason astonish me.
You are a professional driver. You take the pain, get the truck back and do work, or return it to where you have to so you can resign. Resign like a professional. I don't give a #### if the company sucks, the truck is a pile, or if you planned poorly. Not a single ####. It's got nothing to do with what you can get away with it has to do with being a professional. IMHO a good human stands in front of his problems when they are presented to him and does the best he can. Waiting for the truck while in a hotel, whether it's a fleabag or palace for a few days or week is inconsequential to how it feels to walk in and face to face and say "I'm resigning and I wish you the best".
Unless the place you work for really really sucks...ya, then #### them.

I guess the op didn't get the answer he was looking for as he hasn't been back to comment.
I was brokedown in 2003 in Las Vegas for 8 days. I didn't complain about it either. -
And most of those 13,000 have a 100% turnover rate and I wouldn’t drive for them if I were starving to death.Gearjammin' Penguin and DTP Thank this.
-
You can drive for whomever you desire. As to turnover rates this is a problem all across the industry and is not determined by the carriers use or non use of DAC.
-
Nope it’s not, but the companies I drive for or would don’t care about DAC.
-
That may be or not. However they will still care about §391.23 and that qualification file or they are at some point going to have serious problems with the FMCSA. This regulation MUST be followed. I don't give a dang how they do it. DAC just makes it easier. A person can sit for several hours getting this information and formatting it to stay legal or take maybe 10 minutes pulling DAC that is already formatted for compliance and be done with it. Still don't matter these investigations are REQUIRED per FMCSA rule!
-
I’m aware of the requirements to check out a driver, but a DAC report isn’t required and I wouldn’t let a potential negative report like Truck abandonment stop me from making a decision and I guarantee it wouldn’t keep me from getting a job. There’s no insurance company that would deny a insurance because of a truck abandonment charge. I stand by my original point, screw the DAC report.
-
And I am standing by the fact that DAC is not a truckers problem. If you abandon a truck or load it is still going to follow you even if there is no DAC pulled. It don't matter because all DAC does is aggregate the information that's already out there. That concept of information being out there is my main thrust. As a truck driver you can not hide behind the lack of DAC.
