I’ve never abandoned a truck and I wouldn’t that’s not my personality. I would drive it straight to their terminal and explain exactly what the problem was and leave. But this is more about the boogeyman you guys worry about. I’ve been driving 21 years next month and I’ve never had a problem getting a job and I don’t give a rats rear end about some report. I have a good reputation and a clean record (except overloads) and I’m confident I could easily find a job at dozens of companies.

And your showing by that comment that it can be done. I did it for a while longer. If I medically could I could get hired tonight. Drivers like us have nothing to fear with any report. I commend you sir. Drivers that follow the rules, stay off the bong, drive safe, take care of their trucks and make deliveries and pickups on time are a precious commodity. It's really too bad that a lot of these new drivers can't say that.

It is often an unwise idea to quit while on-duty. Maintain good carrier relations with your current company and you will have a good reference to include when searching for your next job. Medium and larger companies use HireRight to do background checks and this is a leading database of driver employment history. Demerits on your record can motivate other companies to believe you are at risk of abandoning their truck if you have a 'sudden change of mind' while driving.

Man I just got my settlement and it's gynormous.
That being said, I still spent the night in a field near the receiver. In my truck, not some nice cushy hotel.
Woke up like 0430 and had to take a crap like a rhinoceros.
There's a Safeway a few hundred yards that opened at 0500.
So squeezed my cheeks, and hopefully didn't do any irreversible damage to my colon.
But was able to get in the Safeway and take a crap like a rhinoceros.
AND
They have a Starbucks, so got a nice fresh hot cup of coffee.

I really enjoyed that movie... @Dave_in_AZ Rhinoceros crapping story...not so much.

HotH2o and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Take the truck to a terminal. DO NOT ABANDON TRUCK if at all possible!
Try and get back to home terminal asap.
Then sure, leave keys in ignition and walk away. -

Simply let them know how you feel... NEVER abandon a truck.
