Broken trucks are not as unique as people think. We used to call in to breakdown and the first thing they would say is, can you drive it. If the answer was yes....he would say, drive it til it breaks down and we'll send a tow for you.

Ten minutes later I called back and said... it won't drive! LOL

If either of you had some military experience to help round that out, you'd have many more choices , Excluding mega carriers.

I'vebeen an owner most of 10 years now and wouldn't do it any other way.
Is that the direction you guys are heading?

Nowhere near as good an idea for a team than a solo. To justify the team you have to keep the truck moving constantly, which is hard to do in the spot market. There are ways, but it's definitely not for beginners. I think I could probably dispatch 2-3 teams as a full time job, and I'm very very good and this would in no way be a good deal for me lol.

Well, if you only make pennies per mile , miles is all that counts.

When you make DOLLARS per mile. You work less and make more $$

Team loads make better $/mile than solo loads do if it's dedicated team freight. A good load for you that pays 3.50 a mile could be TERRIBLE for a team because it takes up 3 days instead of 1-1.5. The fact that you think this is good advice kind of proves my point though. Teams are not for beginners to the business.

If my wife was on the truck , the last thing I'd want is to be moving 23, 2/2 hours per day.

If maximizing the productivity is all you think about , hooray.
But teams burn out for that reason.
Husband and wife ! Might want to do other things if they had the freedom to stop once in a while. Just sayin....

    TruckingSexy Thanks this.

If you and your wife both live in that truck it's your entire household income. I make a good living and my wife works with me. I do not think to myself that every penny we get comes from my effort, a lot comes from her. If it was more efficient for us for her to go back to work as a nurse that's exactly what she'd do.

The money you are thinking of sucks really bad divided across two people. In this country you need to make ~100k for a family of four to live the 'middle class' lifestyle. That means the truck needs to NET 100k a year at a minimum, and owning it outright means adding a ton of expenses and opportunities to screw up and cost yourself money.

A good team should be making way more than 100k working for a decent company. This is one of those rare situations where a good dedicated route with consistent miles is worth being a company driver for. They can just get a lot more value out of that team than the OP can.
