We have an open part time warehouse position. One of the part time admin folks wanted to do it, so that they could go full-time, half admin, half warehouse. While you do not need a CDL, our company does check your driving record before agreeing to train for forklift. Admin person had too many tickets and company said sorry, but we aren't letting you drive company anything. LOL.

There was another post there... I swear it (hence, my "spam" reply). I wasn't just imagining it and it wasn't because I drank too much cough syrup. o_O

CDL not legally required to operate forklift, but CDL might be required by the company in order to hire you.

Even then if it's under 26k GVW and no air brakes (never seen a forklift with air brakes) no CDL.

I guess technically if a forklift has a capacity of over 13 tons and is on a public road to operate it would require a CDL as well as a medical. However I have never seen a forklift that large equipped to be on a street. So no I doubt you legally need a CDL to operate one. Interesting topic though.
