It thinks you're a car, so you have to use your atlas and your eyeballs sometimes. I wouldn't even bother for Chicago...

Does anyone know if the glitches in the Rand McNally 700 have been sorted out? I understand they recently released version 'E'.

I did some research among the few out there and I think I've settled on the Cobra 7750. Huge screen, all the bells and whistles for trucks, beautiful interface, 3D lane view, etc... The only tiny little thing that they do not discuss on their web site is the traffic info systems and auto routing around delayed traffic. My favorite features though were that it keeps a clear track of per state mileage for IFTA preparation and even HOS logging if you choose it. Way easier than having to update it on paper everytime you stop. (supposed to)

First I don't use the nav thing (I can't stand it talking to me). I just keep it on the map view, so I can get a big overall view and just watch the little blue arrow (me) cruise up and down the road.

Second, I use it with my qualcom directions (written ones) to verify when the next turn is coming up. (ex. dir says "turn left on 5th street "Maple street". I will use my phone to see if there is a land mark on the corner such as a mickey d's to give me a heads up)

Third, as somebody else said, the sat view is great for locating the entrances to customers. Which side of the street they are on and so forth. Great help if you have not been there before.

Fourth, I've used it in cities (Chicago included) and small towns out in the middle of the boonies. (works real nice there when dir says "go aprox 3 miles and see fac." where the aprox 3 miles could be anywhere from 1 mile to 10 miles.) My little blue arrow takes me right to the entrance.

Fifth, to be fair I do pull tankers so the overhead view is pretty useful for me to see where I am going. You can spot a tank farm at a plant pretty easy.:biggrin_25525:
