Hey,
In my opinion, this is what separates guys that make money from guys that don't. Yeah, you could call dispatch and get them to push back delivery a day. And that 400 mile load turns into 2 days @ 200 miles each.
Or you can get creative. Make a parking spot. Find a street in the industrial park. Home Depot. Lowe's. Cabelas. Somewhere within creeping distance.
Also, I believe that when dispatch knows you will do everything in your power to make it happen, you'll get the gravy runs. Many people consistently complain about their experience with my first year company (Stevens transport), but my experience was all in all great. Always could get as many miles as I could run, and I believe some of it has to do with the fact that I would make things happen if at all possible.
Not tooting my own horn, just saying get out there and make that money and make it happen.
Just my .02c, no rudeness meant.
Can this be done on time

Nice, how long did run for them? When did you start?

That's why I hate short loads,
tell your company to let a team run it.
If they insist you run it, then take your 10 hour break inroute and deliver it late.austinmike and scottied67 Thank this. -
At which point you are told the next available appointment is in 2 days and you must deliver it

You hit the bar and relax,
I work for a Mega that belongs to the ATA and wants everyone on elogs ,
And I'm the type of person to throw the elog problems back at them.BigBluePeter and BigTennOTR Thank this. -
That's where my issue is... how am I supposed to compete with that as an independent? I won't have the customer for long if I pull that stunt. If I color outside the lines the dot will be up my ###. If I try to educate my customers many of them don't want to hear these issues. Or is it simply time for the independent to call it a day and start driving truck #134287 red freightliner working twice as hard for less than half what I make now and hating my work life? Is that the goal?

I like to relax as well. I just do so at home.BigTennOTR Thanks this.

Why not start your clock after your loaded? I can think of a 1000 ways to get this done.
