Can you become a cdl driver with a pacemaker?

I do know you can go as far as to request a special skills demonstration test with the regional director of the FMCSA.

There are certain things that are automatic disqualifications however.

It appears it depends on what the heart disease diagnosis is and the type of device used. That's not a request you tell me those details I wouldn't recognize the words if you told me. I found that answer by typing "are cdl drivers able to have pacemaker" into my favorite search engine. I use DuckDuckGo.com some people use Google.

Even if you got cleared to drive it could prove difficult to find a reputable carrier to hire you.

 

Pacemakers that have a defibrillator component are an automatic disqualification for a cdl driver.
If you have a pacemaker that has NO defibrillator capability, you are good to go.

I don't know about Tennessee but I have a Nevada class A and and a pacemaker, I am required to get a Cardiac Stress Test done annually to keep my Certificate up to date but I've had no problems finding good companies to work for.

 

After driving the wrong jobs and/or working with the wrong carriers....for long enough....

...and you will NEED a pacemaker.
