Most places that I fuel at don't have DEF pumps, so I can't do it every time I fill up. But if I did fuel at the big chains, I would definitely try to fill the DEF every time. In the event that a place has poor quality DEF, I wouldn't want to fill an entire tank with it.

How much time is wasted in limp mode?
-
Sad part is, that’s strictly a gooberment mandated punishment measure, and not one thing more.
An engine doesn’t need that crap to run. -
Or, you could carry a spare jug in the side box for just such situations. Enough to get you to the next fuel up.

You know DEF is 7 or 8 dollars at Walmart. That's for the big jug. It's off brand butnits the same thing as name brand. Keep that in mind going forward.
COBB2070 and BigDog Trucker Thank this. -
Yes you can bypass it, but I dont recommend people doing that. You'll create many problems for yourself, probably more repairs. Some trucks start having problems once that is done. Very few mechanics will work on it at that point.

10-4 on that. I put a spare jug in the cab once I got back to the yard.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

DEF does have a shelf life, so be sure to empty and refill that gallon every year or so.BigDog Trucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this.
