One of the main ingredients to DEF is Urea, which is also present in your pee. However, the Urea in DEF is basically sanitized compared to your pee. I certainly wouldn't recommend peeing in your DEF tank. Too many other contaminants in pee besides Urea. That said, I'm not a chemical engineer. So if you want to pee in your DEF, go right ahead. Let us know how it works out for you!!!!

    So much for common sense.

Just grab a couple gallons, and keep it in the cab in a milk crate.

When it gets low, put some in and replace the couple gallons when you fuel up.

Thank you for your explanation. It is a no no then.

You are right that Urea is a main ingredient in DEF but its man made and starts out as dry fertilizer not any kinda of sanitized liquid. The urea is then mixed with warm water to get to the desired percentage, 32.4% for trucks. Ive hauled tens of thousands of gallons of the stuff from a place that manufactured it. This place also shipped urea out in dry bulk, and bagged along with a 40% urea solution. They also had aqua ammonia and anhydrous ammonia and a couple liquid fertilizer solutions.

That is mostly correct... But the actual process of making def is more complicated than just mixing urea and water.... Just mixing straight urea with straight water makes a solution... And urea will not stay in solution over about 22 percent without doing it through a chemical reaction process.

I know this first hand from several years in the agricultural fertilizer industry... Including making liquid urea solution in massive quantities. I have made literally millions of gallons of it in 4000 gallon batches.

@Cattleman84 yup I gave the simplified explanation but was just try to dispel the myth thats DEF is made with urine.

What does the urea do in def? Trap the black smoke coming out the tail pipe?

Probably find out years from now that the company that has the patent on urea was some relative of someone in congress or the EPA.
