Try this link and see what you think; http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrguidedetails.aspx?menukey=173

This topic is getting old,,if we could just get a CCW that was good in the 48 we OTR drivers normally drive in...I have a TN CCW but company don't allow Weapons in thier trucks...go figure. Wouldn't want to get sued for thier driver shooting someone. Much better if said driver got shot instead...

FMCSA Part 173.54: Forbidden explosives..... applies ONLY to CARGO/FREIGHT.
Has nothing to do with personal property of drivers.

    http://cfr.vlex.com/vid/173-54-forbidden-explosives-19942332

(except as provided in 49 CFR 1544.219)...... Applies ONLY to TSA and AIR TRAVEL.

    http://cfr.vlex.com/vid/219-carriage-accessible-weapons-19951170

This has been debunked already many times.

    I go EVERYWHERE.
And EVERYWHERE is a "good place" to find the need for self defense.

Attacks happen at the bank, walmart, school, gas stations, stopped at traffic lights, walking across the mall parking lot, getting out of your car at home, ...... and especially in dark secluded areas where truck drivers are often forced to stop and sit.

For just a few examples of how our choice to exercise our Right to own and carry firearms works, please see this link.....

I would suggest reading FACTUAL information before forming opinions.

Here is information from the Cato Institute......
    http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=4706

    And for the record.......

The TOP cause of "Accidents or Unintentional Injuries" is........

    AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS !!!!!

    http://www.the-eggman.com/writings/death_stats.html

(note that "gun injuries" comes in DEAD LAST when self defense shootings and criminals killed by law enforcement are NOT included)

Ever been out east? There are some pretty dangerous places out there. West Memphis isn't a very pretty place either. Lots of dangerous places around this country.

I have been in many dangerous places and never worried about it. I slept at night like always.

My companies have rules about firearms and my employment history is important to my income.

Well you make the choice not to carry. As Medicine pointed out the reg you posted is about cargo.

I carry at all times my permit allows me. I keep a lock box for when I can not. I have had my weapon and credentials checked from Laredo (inspection station) to Rome,Ny (level 3 inspection the officer asked what is in the safe).

As far as the law is concerned we fall under the exact same provisions as any other citizen, and if we did not we could get the law vacated under the equal protection clause.

But as I started out saying you make a choice not to carry. I would keep in mind when seconds count the police are mere minutes away:biggrin_25525:

What you decide to allow your company to tell you is again your choice.

Yes Yes and yes. This person knows what he is saying. If I may add. A lot of trucking companies will tell you it is illegal just so they won't have to deal with any liability issues of their driver shooting someone. The trucking industry is considered a cash cow and there are many lawyers waiting for a chance to sue. With that said. As long as you don't violate any local laws. You can carry. I myself can conceal carry in 38 states. And I do. If I get a non resident Utah Permit I can add 4 more states. Also if you have any CCW you can carry in National Parks in case you are driving through one. It is by far better you have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Nobody can protect you but, you. Police can only clean up the mess and write a pretty report. Much love and be responsible. edited to correct some typo's
