Can you get your CDL in a state you don't have residence in?

What trucking company CDL schools do is you get a CDL from the state the school is in, then the trucking company routes you through your state of domicile to transfer your license. I think they give you 60 or 90 days to do this.

 

Yes they do have a truck I can test in, a local community college not company school, with a manual, but I'm only asking in case I can't pass with the manual as I have a little trouble with it. I think I will pass but like I said wondering about renting an automatic to test in if I can't pass with te manual. Other than shifting I do very we'll. but yes I should contact the dmv just wanted to see if anyone on here had any insight. Thanks!

First find a company that will rent you an automatic truck. Find 3 trucking companies that will put you in an automatic truck once you have your CDL. Establish residency in a state that prospective companies are hiring from.

 

I'm a bit confused about what it is you want. What's wrong with your current State? As far as I know you can rent a truck and test in any State. You really need to watch out for this. I know a guy that lost a good job prospect because he had a history of four CDL transfers in a short time. This is tracked by DAC and is part of any pre-hire report. It shows instability and some employers don't like that. My advice is to find a CDL program at a community college or like training program IN YOUR HOME STATE and go through it.

Once you get your CDL then give serious thought about changing residence just to get a job. Check out all your options then and only then establish residence and transfer.

 

Why wouldn't you be able to finish with a manual?

I just got out of school too. Just a little hard to understand. The school I went to, we had plenty of time to drive and get the manual down.

My school wont test you if they know you can't do it. I got a few more days extra time to work on my backing. Would your school help you get in some more time shifting?

 

Best advice I was given and I can give you, "DO NOT TRY TO BE PERFECT! Drive the truck."

If you have the backs down, the driving test itself is a breeze.

 

from what I am gatting from the state of MASS it is the same. have to test again both written and exam

We need a FEDERAL CDL to avoid all the state crap, imagine getting a CDL wherever you want
