Would anyone drive that same truck today if we gave you the same pay as back then plus same restrictions on were you could run ? You will probably want to buy a kidney belt, and you get nice coffin sleeper and no cell phone. You can have CB and am/fm radio. No power steering depending on the year truck

I started in 89 or 90. Food grade tank. T-600, 350 big cam, 9 speed, and the ultra luxurious 39” sleeper. No heat or ac in the bunk. Just whatever the cab could give me. Nothing in there but a fan and a small cabinet at the foot end.
I eventually splurged on a 5” black and white tv, but there was no place to put it. lol.Brandt, Sons Hero, austinmike and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s pretty nice. He’s ordering them in all the 589’s. Keeps from needing ice packs for my lunch. It’s small enough it cools down quickly during the warmer months, this time of year it’s already cold when I turn it on to go to work. Lol. I turn it off every night unless I’m sleeping in the truck.
It has a mounting plate that’s attached to the floor. I’m sure they’re not cheap but would be handy if someone has the space. If you want I can get the dimensions of it tomorrow sometime when I go over to the truck. -
Keep in mind, when those trucks were mainstream, truckstops were actually in business for truckers. 24 hour full service restaurants, banks of telephones, drivers lounges. Bunkrooms in many of them.
The truck didn't need to be kitted out like a mini apartment, the truckstops filled those needs. No longer.Stone Express, Feedman, Numb and 19 others Thank this. -
My Dad stayed in motels. All his runs were terminal to terminal. They drove him to the motel, get a wake-up call and be rolling again 8 hrs later. Same with home time. 8 hrs off included his 30 minute drive each way. His wife would leave the phone off the hook. Blamed it on us teenagers. Had to catch him on his way in or out. Usually be gone a few days. Longer at first, till he could bid on runs.

Right now in the truck I do 100% of everything through the phone when I am in the truck, from signing stuff to billing and everything, how ever I absolutely hate looking at stuff in the screen as I get older my near vision gets worse and screens make it ten times worse. Would rather look at rate cons and that crap on paper so I am not missing important crap on em. So I am going to try and carry a printer for awhile. Funny thing about printers is I hate them, when I owned the bait shop 2 of them met the end at the hands of my shotgun, so I am sure that if I get frustrated with it it will be slammed against the wall of the sleeperStone Express, Feedman, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.
