Can you just make your own ELD?

It certainly seems like it would be a conflict of interest. Had an AFS World LLC truck park next to me and it has a sticker on the side that says they use AFS World ELD. A fully internally controlled ELD it seems for a 240 odd truck operation.

It's on the FMCSA registered ELDs list, so it's legit. But it would not be financially practical to develop one's own ELD app for the size of most trucking companies. It's possible it's a private label version of an ELD app developed by another company, and it's also possible that AFS World uses it for their own fleet (if they are a trucking company) but also sells it to other trucking companies.

They're probably separate companies. Same people of course but separate.
