    Hello,

    I am looking at a 2000 Peter Built 378

    The VIN is 1XPFDT9X9YD536626

I believe the Y is for year 2000. Does this mean I need to add an ELD. I was reading that prior to 2000 you will not need one. I know it depends on release date.

The engine is the 10.3L L6 DIESEL

    Would appreciate your advice.

    Thank you

The engine will need to be pre 2000. Check the spec plate on that, it will tell you. What transmission does it have? Just being nosy…:)

    Did you buy it?

Everywhere I see it was sold for $11k.

The chassis number is meaningless except if you hand it to the dealer and they print off the original order which will have the serial number of the engine on it.

Looking at the tag, it looks like a 99 not a 2000.

Did not buy yet. Just looking. I will have to go over and look at the engine tag. I am looking for a truck to haul gravel around my area.

ELD is required for trucks 2000 and newer, UNLESS they have an engine year 1999 or older, then the truck is exempt from an ELD. Truck years 1999 or older are ELD exempt.

It is a 2000 MY truck. As mentioned, find out if the engine is 1999 or older.

You're exempt from ELD if you run LOCAL under 100 or 150 miles radius. However, you have to keep track of your time.
