he has a apu with working ac but the apu wont run when the truck is running. otherwise without the apu it would be better to keep moving durring the day and try to sleep at night

I was wrong. The wire you need to disconnect is STANDBY wire image.jpg

i would certainly wait till i made it home to get a ac problem fixed, i do all my own ac work as well as other repairs i would have probably already figured out the problem had parts ordered and waiting at home for me to fix for penny's on the dollar vrs a repair away from home, so i think im with you on that one.

I've ran my apu when my truck alternator died,, the apu kept my batteries charged, but u shouldn't have both running for very long heard that both charging systems will compete and over charge batteries and hurt the electronics.... not sure if this helps at all. Just my experience

Running two generators will kill the battery. Suck it up and be a man....sweat clears the pores.....at least he can sleep in that cool bunk.

BTW my POP drove a truck down south in the hot humid summer back in the 50'S. AND THEY DID NOT HAVE A/C, POWER ASSESORIES OR AIR RIDE. TRY DRIVING LIKE THAT EVERYDAY, COWBOY.

If is was a simple fix to get the apu going then by all means do it. If not, just suck it up and head home. Have we gotten so soft that we can't survive in a vehicle without a/c? I'd be ashamed to call dispatch and tell them I had to get my a/c fixed before I could drive home. I bet all the truckers of old are laughing in their grave at this thread.

I've driven plenty of trucks over the years without working a/c. It's true you will almost melt in city driving but the open road is gravy.

Yeah, it is. Dude's boss is being a lazy, cheap ####. He does not want to put forth the effort or expense to get the AC fixed on the road. It's just the driver who suffers, so who gives a ####? Right?

Yes you can make a thermo-king run with the main engine on, dont need to mess with any wires at all..Google ,Tripac diagnostic manual, go in to programming and turn off EPS, external power source. APU will continue to run with ignition in on position.

    DustyRoad Thanks this.

I think Id just tough it out instead of trying to alter the wiring in the truck. I drove a truck for 10 years before I finally got one that had air conditioning in it! Everytime I went to Fla, it took me a half a day just to get the lovebugs out of my truck!LOL Go in the truckstop and get one of those fans they have in there to use in emergencies. It just clips on and plugs into the cigarette lighter. Thats about all you had in trucks until the mid 70s.
