People’s go crazy over this, but if you do the maths they won’t make that much more than what they are making now.
There will be a slight difference in the drivers favor, but nothing major.
But the 51$ per day for expenditures this is PURE BS pay the drivers the full amount and they will get whatever they can when they will do their tax return. -
What people keep not thinking of is the psychological aspect of this. If a company pays hourly I don't don't mind doing the fueling, pre-trips, waiting at shipper.receiver. When I'm on flat rate (or cpm, same thing really) I'm always anxious to get out of there, wanting to shave 5 minutes off this stop, 5 there, etc. At the end of the day, like most are saying, the pay is around the same. The difference though is I'm happier and not annoyed someone else like a dock worker loading my trailer wasted all my time unpaid.
Ougigoug and upnorthwpg Thank this. -
And your not racing through construction zones, speeding like an idiot, and cutting corners to save a few minutes either.peterd Thanks this.

I don't think it's meant to be a wage increase, but a "feel good" increase. Making employees feel like they are making money for every hour worked.
Generally, from what I've seen, if I take my gross pay at the end of the pay period on a highway trip (paid mileage w/ add pays), divide it by the hours worked, it generally equals out to $2-3 more per hour than what I make locally (hourly wage). Granted, I'm not home every night, but that extra cash is really helpful right now.
I don't see how this kind of pay package really changes anything substantial. I bet the owners looked at what their drivers made on average per hour, then just transposed that to an hourly wage.Ougigoug Thanks this. -
The hourly rate put a smile on face of drivers having to travel across that big parking lot we call Toronto or getting through The tunnel in the swamp late afternoon

You hit the nail right on the head, but when i read comments on their FB page Quebec drivers seems to believe this the holy grail.
But as you said this is more a feel good thing than anything else...but one thing for sure this is a hell of a marketing shot, this is a 25-35 trucks outfit now more than ever lot’s of people’s knows of them.Zeviander Thanks this. -
You have to remember they may do 3 drops in Montreal which on a bad traffic day can take up 10 hrs easy .. so in their eyes it's a guaranteed income if things go badly instead of sucking up the traffic time lost on a cpm gigOugigoug Thanks this.
