I don't really understand it, however I believe it allows you to run the difference of a full 11/14, and your previous shift on duty hours after taking 8 consecutive off rather than 10.

When did you start your shift this morning? And how many driving hrs you have left today?

If you wouldn't have been able to make Liberty within the 11/14 then taking 8 off won't work unless it was just that taking the required 30 minute break would have got in the way. All the 8 does is stop the clock and after the 8 you still have available whatever you had available at the time you stopped.

I first came on duty 11:45am. When I parked at the border I had 4 hours of on duty time left. I sat here while trying to figure out how to make my delivery on time. Brought it down to about 3.5 hours of my 14 hours. I snipped the half hour to sleeper which left me 4 hours of possible drive time. I didn't drive much in Canada. A total of about 6 hours. The rest was spent sitting at shippers.

Ok, you could drive till 9:45 tomorrow with an 8 hr sleeper. If you only had 6 hrs driving time you should have 5 hrs driving time after your 8 hr sleeper. Have you had a full 2 hr consecutive off duty or sleeper at a shipper today?

Let's make it more complicated. :) During all that time at shippers do you have a period of 2 hours or longer that you logged as off duty? If so, after 8 in the berth any time before the 2 hours off won't count against your 11/14.

So you were on duty for 10.5 and 6.0 of which were driving
If you take an 8 hour break you will have the lesser of 14-10.5 (3.5) or 11-6(5). So you will only have 3.5 hours of total time before your 14 runs out when you must take a 2 hour break.

One last comment. @MSGahir you say you're stopped at the border. I assume you''re on elog, currently on Cdn rules and can manually change the region to US. If so, once you have 8 hours in the berth switch the region to US and you will know for sure what you have available before venturing across the bridge. In guessing you're at Fort Erie.
