Can a motor carrier force you or fire you if you don't want to go to Canada?

I'd imagine so if they're forced dispatch. Insubordination.

That depends, do you have a passport? Are you legally able to enter Canada? If no, then I don't see how they can fire you. If yes and it's forced dispatch, then yes I'd assume they can.

The main issue are you Canadian qualified ? I was a co driver and fought it for a few yrs,,excuses mostly to push it off,,,finally tried it and loved it ! Been to most providences from coast to coast. Fav runs were to Calgary. Ended up on a dedicated run from Ohio to StThomas Ontario and back every day. 512 miles two crossings at Detroit/Windsor...

I wonder if they're offering OP any extra money to cross the border. If there's no extra money, I wouldn't do it. But extra money, long miles on a mileage contract, paid the same loaded and empty, I'd jump at it. But for the same rate that I could make in the states, absolutely not.

If you are going to run N. of the border, make sure you have a good dog team, you wont want to get stuck in our wilderness...

Unless you are a union driver or a government employee, a company can fire you for little or no reason. If you hired on knowing the company had runs into Canada, then by your choice, you say you will not go, then they are within their rights to terminate you.

It was dedicated drop n hook 7 days a week. Loved having a guaranteed load, no waiting , great roads except for I 75 in Michighan.. No extra bonus for trips but the dedicated manager on the accnt took very good care of us. Toss in an extra $200 if things went well. Would have regular drivers meeting and a catered BBQ just as a thanks. That didn't pay the bills but made it a great place to work.just behave yourself and no troubles.
Our crew was about 14 drivers, one nite a driver decided he had to piss and in the drop lot goes behind a trailer to whiz. Got caught on camera on top of light pole by guard shack. Turns out that's indecent exposure in Ontario and also considered a sex crime. Customer wouldn't allow him on the property,,also denied entry into Canada,,,got kicked off a great accnt after 6 yrs. just behave !

That dog team won't do a bit of good for yah unless they can take on bears and wolves and hunt.

No one can force it if legally you can't get in. Companies are usually up front about it.
