I've often wondered how the railroad gets away with what they do. CN bought out the Mn iron range. Most everything is hauled to to boats in Duluth, Mn.

Probably American employees or work visas that allow Canadians to work in the USA?

Thanks everyone and OP for starting this.

I only run ON so I'm not sure if this applies to the rest of canada, but Canadian customs is also requiring an ACI emanifest when crossing into canada while empty now. I hear they are cracking down. The co I'm leased to sent out a reminder not long ago that customs is issuing fines for noncompliance. Although I've been hearing this off and on for years I don't know how much leniency they give now. I guess we still had drivers trying to cross the border without emanifests.

    fyi...
The Ambassador Bridge is privately owned. Call them to get setup for a transponder to cross the bridge.
Also, look into getting a customs transponder. They are pushing it pretty hard in Detroit and Port Huron but it is not yet required. I'll post a link to the website. If paying cash it is $13.05 I think. You only pay when coming back into the US.

The FDA transponders are over $600 now if I recall correctly. That's alot of crossings to make it pay.

Wow. Its a money grab. US customs was pushing them pretty hard last fall 2015. What they didn't say was the transponder would expired in Jan and then you would have to pay again for 2016. Last I heard they were up to about $400 USD. I still pay cash and put up with the inconvenience for now.

    Here are some links...

    Customs transponder...

    Ambass Br...

    General Info...

Also, Bridge tolls for Ambass Br and Blue Water Br are different going into and coming out.

I'm sure you know, but you will need a passport to cross the border. A friend of mine got a Passcard instead of a passport. Passcards cost less but only work for land crossings. I guess you can't use a passcard to fly to other countries. I got a passport.

    Hope this helps

Only reason I know its about 400 was I helped one of our customers sign up their truck. Last I knew it was around 250 USD which wasn't a bad deal if you crossed often. I actually got on their website and created an acct but decided to wait. Glad I did because our ON freight dried up.
