I'm in a similar position. I have orientation lined up for Schneider on the 17th and I just got a call today from a company about 35 miles away, that want's me to be there tomorrow morning at 8:00 am for a driving test. Only thing is, it's the same end dump/bob tail work I've had bad luck with locally since I obtained my CDL. Rain days can be a killer on a one income family. I certainly won't be calling and cancelling orientation for a "possible" gig locally. Even if the driving test goes well, then you're looking at taking a drug test, background check etc. That takes some time. So unless they give me a firm offer by Friday, I'll probably be heading out Monday. I think the idea made by gokidd is solid. Just give them a call, and push it back a week. If all else fails, you'll just be going to orientation a week later than originally planned. If my bank account wasn't shirking by the minute, and bills weren't still coming, and I hadn't been out of work for over a month, that's what I'd do. I just can't afford to sit for another week waiting on a call.

Western express is one and the other is M&K logistics which has 7 trucks total in their fleet. They run shuttle between buildings at a large manufacturing plant 2 minutes from my house. Great guys work for them and never complain. They all make between 19 and $21 an hour, avg 50 hours a week. One of his drivers told the owner about me and now I'm meeting him Saturday at his house Since he's looking to add one guy. I am going to tell I'm willing to work for 15 an hour to start. Plus what companies have you worked for that the owner invites you to his house?

Soon as you know for sure that small company is going to hire you call the mega carrier and cancell your orientation otherwise you won't be eligible for rehire for I think 90 days and its the right thing to do.

Do you know if there is a way to get ahold of someone about that on a weekend?

Someone will answer even if a dispatcher and they'll relay the message to your recruiter.

But don't tell them you have another job.Tell them you have an illness in the family and you'll have to reschedule at a later date.

There's the patty I was waiting for..
He doesn't need to provide an explanation. It doesn't make a difference. Reschedule, end of story. Don't need a reason to qualify.
