Canceling Prostar cruise control

    Is there a way to "cancel" cruise control on a prostar without tapping the brake or clutch? Typical scenerio: Cruise set at 62mph on flat ground and I am approaching a short hill.

    option a) Leave cruise control engaged & have truck waste 475hp worth of fuel the moment speed drops to 61 mph, then have it rocket me up to 64mph just after the crest.

    option b) tap brake or clutch, bleed speed off over hill and let downhill reaccelerate me, click "resume" when back on flat ground and continue on at 62mph

    option c) turn off cruise, bleed off speed uphill, let downhill reaccelerate me, & then on the flat spend a few moments trying to hold 62mph so I can set cruise again.


    There is a "coast" button, but the moment I apply throttle the cruise reengages.

    Don't know if you want to cancel the cruise going down or up, but here is how I handle it. I tell students, you can't use cruise for all situations. Sometimes you have to drive the truck.

    The Pro Star cruise starts running away on downhill. When it gets to the upper limit of my comfort level, I tap the brakes. Then the jakes usually do the rest unless I am heavy and the hill is steep. As I approach the bottom, I hit resume. If it is a steep grade going back up, I help it with the throttle until my speed gets to the set point on my cruise. If the speed falls to 55 on the way back up, I downshift which cancels cruise. most times I can hold 55 in 9th going back up unless it is really steep.

    I get great mileage and that is with students usually driving. I have found that cruise will get me up a hill better than I can do it myself.

    Best way to cancel cruise is to match the speed with the gas petal and then tap the clutch that way you still have the speed for the incline. Also, using cruise on mountain hills is a bad idea.
