Dry van freight (via Swift, etc) will offer you:

• The shortest....& flattest...learning curve for driving a big rig
• Many more "drop-n-hook" loads; thus -- you spend FAR LESS time sitting at docks, waiting to be loaded/unloaded -- & FAR MORE time moving (& thus, making $$$); your are far less dependent on any detention pay that you may (or may not) get
• More practice with backing up (which you NEED, as a new driver) -- & less time as a mere steering wheel holder

The above is manifested mostly by the fact that most CDL schools use dry van trailers to teach their classes.

 

If you love hunting &/or fishing -- Cabela's is pretty much a no-brainer.

The only "negative" there that I can think of: you may be required to unload the trailer at each stop. This effort will require you to use a pallet jack.

Ask the recruiter what your pay is -- during each driver unload event. The first 15 - 30 mins may involve NO PAY.

This pay "donut hole" is typical for a lot of fleets (if it's even there).

Cabalas used to be a team only account at Swift. I don't know what it is know but I would get a clear answer to that before you commit.

The Cabalas account was almost all night pickup and delivery, but lots of drop and hook.

My preference would be for flatbed starting out, especially if backing is an issue. Only way I would turn down flatbed is if they were paying crap for tarping or your health is so bad you would be risking heart attack. Then you shouldn't be in a truck at all.

4 months is too long to be sitting on your thumbs. The newbie hiring season is about over. You don't get something soon, you will be do for a refresher before you get started.

And, don't count on any training company to teach you a thing! That is not what they are there for. Take initiative to learn what you need to do to get the job done without relying on any trainer or training companies assistance.
