I started driving at the tender age of 22. Been doing this for 18 years and counting, now. And I gotta tell ya, I absolutely LOATHED my job for the first 15 years! I hated the trucks, the scheduling, the time away from home and friends, the docks (and the accompanying dock "workers"), the whole she-bang! The simple thought of having to get into that darned truck was almost enough to drive me to tears at times.
Why did I stay with it? Better money than anything I was qualified to do back home, and I couldn't afford to relocate to a better area. Yeah, moving costs money. Who knew?
Anywho, I finally made that one necessary change that readjusted my whole outlook on my job and my life. I switched trailers. No more of that dry van crud for me, no sir! Been dragging a flat or (more recently) a stepdeck around for the last three years, and I've finally started to discover some of the fun a fella can have out here! My stress has dropped by a couple of orders of magnitude, my pay has increased, and my treatment by my various carriers has been much, much better.
OP, try switching trailers. With two years in, provided you've got a good, clean record, there are plenty of carriers who will take you on and train you on different equipment. Look into flats or specialized or tanker. Betcha you find something that will change your outlook on this field and life in general.RERM, Dye Guardian, Rusty Trawler and 1 other person Thank this. -
$200,000.00 per year would barely put you near a standard of living close to 1975 standards.RERM, Florida Playboy and HalpinUout Thank this.

Same here, its not as glamourius as what some may think.I hated local and dreaded going to work like the op does otr.

If your willing to look, you can find good local work. Ive have several, i dont bust my ###, i dont live in the truck, and im not broke. And most importantly, im for the most part content

Nobody wants to pay anything decent for local work. Well, hardly anybody does. If you can't make at least $250 a day it's horse crap. They think they're doing you a favor by not asking you to sleep in a truck but in reality having to get out of the truck and commute both ways 5 days a week can be even worse.
RERM, Longarm and diesel drinker Thank this. -
I don't care what kind of drivi,g job it is whether it's class A or B it's still trucking and most don't have a set schedule when to come to work and done for the day.For me my 10 hrs started the very second I parked the truck and had to be back at the trk and ready to roll the second my brk was over.Which left little time to do anything else after work and never knew if I had to work Saturday till dispatch was done for the day on Friday so there was no planning ahead.
