I certainly am not one to need much in the way of house. Just give me four walls and a roof. A one story modular would do nicely. That would leave quite a bit of income left for investments and enjoying life.
Keeping up with the Jones' just isn't worth the trouble, IMO.
Cant do it anymore

I've got a few family members who've driven most of their lives. My dad drove for about 25 years with half that being as an O/O, so I have a bit of a handle on what's involved in the job. They never tried to turn me away from driving but they strongly advised getting some sort of degree or trade behind me first, then to go trucking if I still felt the desire. I got my CDL 4 years ago, now its just a matter of when I get tired of fixing stuff lol.Oxbow and Dye Guardian Thank this.

Holly crap!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about a huge increase and the common folks get literally cents which takes yrs to implement the hourly wage.of course trucking is exempt from it.

For those with family or other reasons to want to have a more typical life, at least local, you can come home most every night and be with people who love you and decompress ... you can have a life outside of the truck. OTR? (true 48 state all seasons OTR, not this regional stuff some like to classify as OTR), not so much.
And if a new driver is struggling with learning to back and shift and manage time and all the other BS associated with trucking, being away from loved ones for weeks and months at a time is just too much for many to handle and makes a bad situation, unbearable. So this makes the two jobs completely different IMO
All that said, for some who can handle the solitude and don't need frequent home-time, running 48 OTR is a great way to see the nation on somebody else's dime. While doing so, you can have plenty of time to think about what you want long-term from life and/or the job.KillingTime and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
What I say to all of that is it's what the driver prefers everyone is different and has their own stories what OTR and local means to them.Ooops Thanks this.
