Its not any better where I hang my hat for the last few months prior to retirement. Sure we pull down 4k a week but the price you pay is your life. Most of these guys a divorced, homeless(live in RV) and just follow the money. 6 days a week, 12 hrs a day. Its a frign grind. A least I'm in the woods of Washington away from all the public riff-raff. So there's that. When your done your done.

Don't blame ya one bit. I quit driving after just over 6 years mainly due to never being home enough for the family but also its nice not having to deal with all the BS from the shipper/receivers, DOT, and dispatchers. Once my company got bought out and everything went to hell I knew it was time to leave and got myself a job down the road from my house.

I really have to chuckle at the way folks bash the younger generation! The funny thing is, that it doesn't matter which generation you are from, there were a few generations before you, bashing YOUR generation!
I remember my grandmother saying "the world is going to hell in a hand basket, because of this new generation!"
My dad used to say the same thing, and I know I've said it a few times myself.

Now, the big question is, WHAT THE HELL IS A HAND BASKET, AND HOW DOES THE WHOLE WORLD FIT INTO ONE?
Oxbow, Longarm, KillingTime and 4 others Thank this. -
I showed the reason why I despise certain people from this generation. Having said that after a lot of thought I came back to this. If the OP wants to leave who are we to tell the OP how to run his life How his attitude will be is how his future endeavors will go.

What kind of work is this and how do you get into it? For comparison I used to pull 12 hour shifts M-F and a ten hour shift on Saturday but for $400 not $4,000 a week.

Are you looking to get off the road?
-
Yes, I am actually currently off the road but my job simply doesn't pay enough. Looking for options where I can make enough money that don't involve getting back into a sleeper truck.okiedokie and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this.

Ok gotcha I was going to do a local home every night gig here for a farm hauling grain until I ran across my current job. It's normal hours and I can use my degree to advance in this industry.

Also there is good money to be made driving a ready mix truck. The downtime is in the winter but I don't see that being a issue in Florida
