The fuel tank, if it is breaking the weld I would suspect the vent is not open? That could mean you have a loose injector and combustion getting by the injector? check the return line or look into the tank while it is running.
Using cat head bolts for a bushing driver, I made quite a few, never broke a tool bit.and they install so much easier there is very little reaming.
Is it posible it is the wrong preasure plate, you have me beat.
Just a thought! -
Taking out tomorrow again.
I also suspect wrong clutch pack.
As stated we bought the truck used and did 1 job then pulled box to change clutch.
Just said to parts guy supply as per sample.
Getting clutch from Freightliner as per VIN number.
Cummins told parts guy they cant give him specs on flywheel.....??
I think I will give them a call and see if they try that with me.
They also say 2 weeks to get a new one.
Will go borrow a good used one from a local truck breaker to compare.
Will update once I know more. -
What problems were you having that you only did one job and had to tear into the clutch?
I don't know if it is even possible, but could someone have put the wrong flywheel in?
It's just a suggestion, but talking to a company like ccc truck that is a distributor for eaton could maybe help you. They have always been able to answer any technical questions that I had as well as being able to check your numbers for the right clutch set. -

Finally got it sorted.
Fly wheel was 1/8th thicker then a new one (never seen this).
The 2 clutches were also 1/8th to thick.
I would have thought you could overcome 1/4 inch with adjustment.
I suppose all adjustment is to compensate for wear and not for oversize.
Fitted a standard flywheel and Eaton clutch pack , set the clutch and linkages and all good now. -
Glad you got it sorted out, and thanks for the update.
king Q Thanks this. -
For anyone looking for which way clutch plates go when u don’t have stickers or print is wore off everything I found on the internet was wrong flat side doesn’t go to the engine correct way is longest side to transmission if they are two different lengths and long side to to engine
