Nope, power should not effect the swr. It sounds like common current mode problem.

Unless that power is at 54 megahertz going into a 27 megahertz antenna in which case it will

I wouldn't exactly call it a dirty trick.
That driver Tom did exactly that and that's how he reached me from 74 miles away out of his Cascadia. I don't think he has any desire to make any changes to his antenna system any time soon.

Got the 10" shaft option and installed it, rotated about 20 degrees to the front, also swapped out for an aftermarket power supply. SWR is down to about 2.8 on 19, but I'd still like it to get a bit lower
No, I haven't. Haven't been able to find a good tutorial, either, so would you be willing to ELI5?

Ok for some reason no one mentioned this ...

Take the truck to someone who has an antenna analyzer and have them check the antenna.

They can determine what is what with the antenna and possibly the coax but ...

Your problem will be more likely an RF ground issue which is not a D.C. groUnd issue. There is something called common current mode which is many times caused by a bad RF ground..

This idea of tilting the antenna won't help or fix the problem.
