    Well as the old saying goes "if it sounds to good to be true it probably isn't " Think about it if a company said they would pay below the going rates promise no bonuses, who would jump at that opportunity? No one, well maybe ok maybe a few would but you know what I mean its like with a sales pitch we all love a bargain, and this is why merchants continue to use the same presentation they promote a product tell you how good it is, then say oh usually we'd charge $300 but for todays customers only in fact the first 50 callers will only pay $75 you think what a bargain your not thinking hey is this product good, what is their money back guarantee how is customer service? No you think wow i'm going to save $225 what a deal, same thing is going on in the transport industry drivers are being offered up deal that sounds to good to be true only to find out that it was just a bunch of broken promises. Bottom line is though not sure if you factored in how much you saved by using this company as compared to if you paid to go to a driving school? It'd be much more than what you think the company owes you. And by the way if you still owe them for the training they'll be looking for you to re-emburse them for it. Best check out what ever contract you signed, it'll be in the fine print of course.

    Millis Transfer was bought out by Heartland Express last year.

    When i spoke to the recruiter, i was getting conflicting info and and other red flags and really i’m glad i didn’t go with them

    now come to the dark side and do flatbed lol

    I gotta be honest I think your situation may be an isolated issue. Not to take away from what you experienced but this has not been my experience at all with Millis.
    I’ve only been with the company a few months. Got my cdl with the Cartersville school and have been driving for them since. It does kinda seem like trucking may just not be for you, respectfully.
    Maybe being an army vet set me up for being used to “hurry up and wait” but I also think it built a decent amount of patience and understanding how to solve issues where there seems to be no solution. Especially with people that have control over your pay and workload.
    I’ve had slow weeks, barely over 1k, and I’ve had pretty good weeks, right under 3k. I’ve dealt with the load is ready, wait no it’s not. I’ve dealt with maintenance trying to get a bumper fixed for 4-5days. However, all of my text and calls have been answered, even if they weren’t as fast as I always would have liked they’ve always been answered. My home time has never been fumbled but I always request it at least a week in advance. I do straight miles because I don’t worry about being paid while I’m off because I already kinda prep and save for my time off. I’ve had an issue with pay once but it got fixed on my very next check and never ran into that again.
    I will say that the buy out by heartland may have changed Millis from what it was 5-10 years ago but honestly there aren’t any trucking companies that are the same from then to now. Economy is busted just in case nobody has noticed that. However, the buy out has given us access to all the heartland terminals and they’re pretty decent. That’s a nice luxury to have when you’re pushing a load to late in the day and you know all the stops are full and there won’t be anywhere to park.
    I’ve noticed every time I’m back in Cartersville they’re having a new orientation class and I always stop and smoke a cig with them and listen to their complaints about the companies they came from and why they’ve chosen Millis as the next step. Everything from terrible pay to bad company policy or lack of benefits. I see a lot of those guys and gals at terminals all the time and their experiences have been pretty consistent.

    I still sing the praises of Millis because it’s not gonna get much better out here in the trucking world. Too small of a company equals too little pay or consistency. Too big of a company equals no quality control on trucks or truckers. Millis is pretty much in the sweet spot of what’s good left out there in the otr options these days. Trucking ain’t for everybody and that may not apply to you but it also might, respectfully. I think Millis is still a solid company and though it has its flaws from time to time it’s way better than the horror stories I hear from my other buddies working for larger and smaller companies.
